Lots of mining history here. Old headframes attest to the maze of underground mine tunnels. Intense earth tones everywhere.

Some works from another great day in the desert oasis of Tohono Chul Park in northwest Tucson. Tucson Plein Air Society members were invited to paint this day. An exhibit will follow on March 17-April 26 in conjunction with the invitational “Out in the Open: The Art of Plein Air”.

A nice place to take a walk, a sit, and enjoy. St. Philip’s is at a crossroads of a busy intersection with tantalizing smells from nearby restaurants wafting in. It seems like an old Spanish mission, but is a more recent addition to the ambiance of the area (not quite 100 years for sure…)

This drawing was done in celebration of Drawing Day 2008. I made it my first task of the day to sit with my coffee and sketch book on the front porch and draw what was at hand, or afoot, as the case may be.
